the metrodome is a dome again!

so, i was biking through downtown, and noticed that the roof of the Mall of America Field at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has been re-inflated!!

i wonder if that swastika is still in the center of the roof?

did somebody in minneapolis get raptured?

this morning, i noticed these clothes in an exterior corner of minneapolis' main post office.

sure, it's possible that somebody left a pair of inside-out boxer briefs, a pair of shorts, and 2 (folded!?!) t-shirts for a reason, but could it also be proof that at least ONE minneapolitan has been found to be righteous?

free panties on franklin ave!

so, while heading back to the car after my friend JLJ
and i enjoyed a couple DElicious slices of the Veggie pie
and the Pizza Luce on Franklin, i noticed 2 cardboard
boxes on the Luce side of the sidewalk that would be in
the middle of Milwaukee Avenue if it continued north.

naturally, we investigated and discovered that the boxes
contained mostly clothes and a pair of tongs.

the tongs enabled further investigation without having
to actually touch anything in the boxes (except for the
tongs, of course, which we later decided were probably
the dirtiest things in there cuzza who knows how many
people checking out the boxes with those things!), but
upon finding these, what appear to be period stained
panties sorta stuck in blue scrubs, we decided to move on.

as we were walking away, a woman who was walking up
the block was all "hey, is that free stuff?", to which we
replied "help yourself!"

before we could get back into the car which was like
10 feet away, the woman had also discovered the panties,
and ALSO decided to keep on moving.

the hexagon bar has a new fence

i was sorta partial to the "cattle fence", or whatever it was the hex had for the last few years, but
this looks super classy! it even has HEXAGONS in the design. clever!

as a bonus, it will more easily allow double-decker locking of bikes! well, as long as they don't harsh on the cool kids using that top top rail to lock-up to...

saw this flier at my local cub foods today.

it's great to see that in this world of ebooks and kindles that there are people who still believe in actual BOOKS.

although i haven't sold them any books yet, i did take a look at the cash-for-books.com website, and it seems pretty straight forward; type in the number on the back of the book, and they'll tell you what they'll pay for it.

the used book selling part is all online, but they say they'll come PICK UP your books, or you can drop them off at their minneapolis location.

might come in VERY handy if i ever get around to that spring cleaning!

powderhorn park turtle

yay! i "saved" a turtle that was hangin' out on 31st just north of poho park.

not sure what it was doing so far away from the lake, but figured the grass in the park would be better than the road so i moved it. (there wasn't any mowing going on, or anything.

not sure what kind of turtle it is, but the person i was with speculated that it was a snapping turtle. it DID seem awfully bitey...

i think its trying to bite me is just its way of saying thanks!

you're welcome!

squirrel v english house sparrow

so, i'm hard at work and minding my own biz at about 5:00 this evening, and i hear the (what seems like) million english house sparrows that are nesting in the vines outside my window making a HUGE ruckus.

hoping that there's one of the hawks that i've seen "hunting" in the vines before, i head to the window with my camera, only to see a SQUIRREL on the window ledge munching on a chick.

CA-RAZY!!

why can't there be an army of squirrels trained to hit the nests of this invasive species, and tcb? maybe someday...

anyways, over the next 1/2 hour i shot a few short vids, and took some still photos which didn't work that well since the "feast" was on the other side of a screen, but here's a representative shot:

minneapolis c. s. i., or is it csi ?

as in "crushed squirrel incident".

no need for the "investigation" part, since it appears obvious what happened to the little buddy.

OW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unintentional flag desecration

i've always tought that too many people spend too much time worrying about Old Glory being "desecrated", and find it very humorous that a huge number of those people routinely violate us code with relation to the Flag.

here's a perfect example that i found on a target endcap...

"oh, look at that. now THAT'S 'merican, i'd better buy THAT brand. plus, if that chick who sang that song 20 years ago likes 'em, well, so will i."

not only is the Flag on the box, but kellogg's is promoting their delicious corn flakes by offering a "free" one. seems to me that that's a double violation of the Flag code...

UNITED STATES CODE - TITLE 36 - CHAPTER 10

PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS

§176. Respect for flag

...

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard...

target carts on the loose

looks like at least SOME people have figured out how to circumvent the wheel-locking of the carts from the lake/hiawatha target (aka targhetto), since the above were parked near the north entry to the lake/hiawatha lrt stop.

cool hand luke on 27th ave?

these mighta been like this for a while, and surely they're just in the process of being installed so that the city can make sure that NOBODY stops at any of the shops on the 3000 block of 27th, but since paul newman's death is so recent, and cool hand luke was such an awesome movie, i wanna just pretend that his ghost came and did this or something...

2 - i DO realize that this is becoming a "27th and lake" blog

the "note" says "not a bike rack".

maybe not, but it IS a nice sturdy pole at the ivy building.
